The First Month- Recap

What a crazy month. Baylor was born, we had his newborn pictures made, then our house was packed up & moved to North Carolina. Afterwards, Chris & his parents drove up there to "organize" everything in our new apartment (and drove back), we lived with them for 2 weeks, visited with as many friends & family as we could, ate Thanksgiving lunch with everyone on my mother's side of the family, went to the Iron Bowl, packed up everything else & drove back up to North Carolina. All while still "recovering" from my c-section, attending follow-up doctor's visits, tending to a newborn, etc.

We were extremely blessed to have the grandparent's help during the last month. We couldn't have done it without them. Here are a few pics since the last post:

The First 2 Weeks

Time flies! Baylor is 2 weeks old. We are so proud of him at every little milestone. His umbilical cord fell off today, as well as his "pee pee ring" - at the same time actually. And he took 4oz. of milk for the first time today too. He's growing and we are so thankful he's healthy and happy. :)

The first night Baylor slept at home, Chris and I didn't sleep a wink because we were so scared to take our eyes of him. Since then, we are becoming acclimated to all of his sounds and mannerisms and are feeling more confident to leave the room, do things around the house, etc. without watching him 24/7. We also try to sleep when he's sleeping as much as possible.

Delivery & birth

After 10 hours of labor at Baptist East hospital, the doctor decided Baylor just wasn't coming the "regular" way, and mama was getting a fever, so we had him via C-section on Thursday afternoon, October 29th. Needless to say we were READY, but I think hearing the news of the C-section had both our families a little scared. After all, my labor was progressing just fine until the last few hours. In the operating room, all I wanted to hear was Baylor cry while the doctors were performing the section. When I heard Chris say, he's out baby! He's here! And then I heard the cry for the first time, that was the best feeling in the world. I didn't care about anything else.

Chris & I had a perfect baby boy! We still can't believe it. We are filled with so many emotions- but mostly a renewed understanding of God's love for us. He made this baby; it's all His handywork. How awesome.

Almost there!

We are scheduled to arrive at the hospital at 5pm on October 28th to start the induction process. By the morning of the 29th, Baylor should be here! We are so excited. I've been having more frequent contractions and pains related to the baby "dropping" but nothing else really. He's just as active as ever, sometimes waking me up in the middle of the night practicing his dance moves :)

I'm in my 38th week, so here are a few things going on this week:

Your Pregnancy: Week 38 - Two more weeks to go and your nesting instinct is in full throttle. You're busy washing and folding (and refolding) baby's clothes, marveling over how anyone could ever fit into such a teensy weensy T-shirt. If you haven't set up the crib, bassinet or wherever you plan for baby to sleep—now would be a good time. You don't want Dad frantically trying to figure out some incomprehensible instruction manual between contractions.

What You're Thinking:

"Please don't let my water break at an inopportune time like in the middle of a client meeting or during my pedicure or at a fancy restaurant ..."

Your Baby:

Your baby's intestines have accumulated a considerable amount of meconium (the code name for black, tar-like baby poop), which is usually eliminated shortly after birth and gives you your first experience with the 100-wipe diaper change. Here's what else is up:

Your baby might just scratch herself in the womb as the fingernails have grown over the fingertips now. Resist painting them hot pink when she arrives.

Baby's lungs continue to mature and her brain and nerve function are working better every day. The latter two will continue to mature until Junior is a teenager, at which point she'll know it all (or at least she'll think she does).

Your baby weighs about 6½ pounds and is around 19 or 20 inches long—as long as a duffle bag (in case you needed an excuse to go shopping for a new bag for your labor gear).

Congrats to mama and Allen!

Going along with the theme of "new beginnings" ... (ha!)... my sweet mama and her dear boyfriend, Allen, got engaged over the weekend!! We are so happy for them and wish them a long, fulfilling life together. This is just another tribute to life's unpredictability and God's faithfulness! :) Much love to Zizi and JAT (their grandparent names)!

More Baby Showers!

My mom's friend, Cathy Mobley, and her daughters (Allyson, Ashley, Amy & Abby) helped host a baby shower (along with my aunts Gena, Paris, Tammy & Ruth Ellen) on Sept. 27th at 2pm. It was a great time!

Our friends, Brent & Rhonda Hicks, hosted a baby shower for us at their house on September 25th. Most attendees were Chris's co-workers. Rhonda and Mary Grace (their little girl) did the decorating and Mary also helped me pass around the gifts :)

Church Baby Shower - September 27th
Landmark hosts a quarterly baby shower for all babies due within that quarter. It was held after evening services. We were overwhelmed with all the gifts and generousity shown to us. We will miss Landmark so much!
